| An S-Hack is a hackamore that is shaped like a backwards 'S'...sort of. Unlike most hackamores, this one has a very short shank that swoops back and does not interfere with a horse eating or drinking while on trail. The ones you can buy off-the-shelf come with a very harsh twisted rawhide nose band and a curb chain that will rust. These, on the other hand, are really neat! They have a softly padded noseband...that is also pretty...and a stainless steel curb chain attached to beta strapping. The other strap you see in the picture is to hold the shanks in place and prevent it from flipping upside down if the horse tosses his head. The 'S' part is aircraft grade aluminum. So, nothing to ever rust. Kind to the horse, pretty to the eye and will last forever. Who can use this item? The S-Hack can be used on horses that can be easily rated. Some endurance riders find that they need to use a bit on the first loop of a ride, then can switch to the S-Hack after their horse settles down a little. Others use it all the time. If your horse objects to a bit, fussing with it constantly or chomping on it, he may like the S-Hack really well and learn to relax with it. Especially nice for horses that may have had a previous injury to their teeth, jaw or tongue since the hack will not be putting pressure on those areas. It makes it so much easier for the horse to drink well and to grab a bite of grass, which is very helpful during a ride. If your horse knows how to neck rein, then he will neck rein with this. This style of 'hack' is really handy when you dismount...just flip the reins over the horse's head and you can lead him with the reins. Or, select the style with the "halter ring" option and you can remove your reins and clip them onto the ring and use it as a regular halter. Either way, it's a great item to use. NOTE: It is NOT recommended that you use the S-Hack for tying the horse...just for leading or for trot-outs. |
